                                          Inductees

Four outstanding individuals from the state’s wrestling community have been selected for induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. 

The Connecticut chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame will hold an induction dinner on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Aria’s in Prospect to honor these men for their contribution to the sport of wrestling and our communities. The four men are:

Daryl Arroyo, a Milford native and former head coach at Springfield College 
Mark Cammisa, a youth wrestling coach and coordinator in Danbury and with USA Connecticut Wrestling
John Lawless, the former head coach and athletic director at Nonnewaug in Woodbury
Lieutenant Colonel Michael P. Morris, Jr., a former youth wrestling coach and coordinator in New Milford, Colchester, Hebron and Danbury and an assistant coach at Bacon Academy

Arroyo, Cammisa and Lawless will receive a Lifetime Achievement award for coaches, officials, or contributors with at least 20 years of service. Morris is being recognized as an Outstanding American, a former wrestler who is highly successful in his/her profession.

Six outstanding individuals from the state’s wrestling community have been selected for induction into the inaugural class of the Connecticut Wrestling Hall of Fame.
 

The late Steve Fernandes of Southington, a three-time NCAA Division III All-American and 1982 Division III national champion at Trenton State
Former Norwich Free Academy wrestler Tony Gizio, who won two New England and State Open championships
Former Hand High wrestler Jim Guzzio, who won two New England titles in high school and became just the second Connecticut native to earn NCAA Division I All-American honors at the University of Maryland in 1997.
Brendan Harris, one of just two men in Connecticut to win four State Open titles (1995-98).
T.J. MarcAurele, the NFA and Ledyard High wrestler, who won three New England titles, four State Open championships (1989-92) and a Cadet Division world title in 1989
Former Waterford High wrestler Stefenie Shaw, who twice finished fourth at the U.S. Olympic trials and won a bronze medal for the U.S. at the 2004 Pan-American Games
